CREATING

I am a self-taught weaver, exploring who I am and what my responsibilities are to my ancestors, my family, my community, myself, to the nations where I live, and to the land, water, and all beings.

Below I share stories and photos of the art residencies, exhibits, and projects that I have joyously been happy to participate in. These stories and photos are about discovery, process, and relationships.

RESIDENCIES

I’m a fan of residencies. Why? They offer focused space, connections, relationships, knowledge, and equipment for exploring my artistic practice. They challenge me and expand what I thought was possible and move me in unexpected ways. They affirm me as an artist, a mother, and a human seeking connection.

EXHIBITS

The opportunity to exhibit my art has often been connected to the residencies I have participated in. Not only is there an opportunity to explore, experiment, and test out in a residency; but an opportunity to share and connect with the wider community. This sharing means that my artistic practice can live beyond me.

ENGAGEMENT

I love engaging community of all ages in learning how to weave. It’s even better when we incorporate weaving into themes of connection, belonging, and community. Weaving is not only a process, but a metaphor.

PURCHASE

I offer two opportunities to purchase my weavings; in November at the Contextural Fibre Arts Sale in Calgary, AB and in the summer at Birchtree Gallery in Victoria, PEI.

PROJECTS

Throughout the year, I am working on different project ideas; most of them in a collection phase. I am collecting ideas for writing a memoir, collecting sounds of water, collecting natural items, collecting objects from my son’s pocket, and collecting information about human interaction with water. It takes a long time before these collections move into the next phases of creating and sharing, but when they do I’ll be sharing them here!
